Below you'll find the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding the briefCase system.
What is briefCase?
briefCase is a web application designed by the Office of University Financial Aid to allow web access to certain legacy systems at the University.
How do I access briefCase?
To access the system, simply click Log In from any briefCase page. You will then be asked to enter a User ID and Password. If you have a Case Network ID, you should use this to access the system. If you do not have a Case Network ID, you can still access the system using a briefCase ID which can be obtained by contacting the Webmaster from the link on the footer of this page.
Once you have entered the system, simply follow the on-screen instructions to obtain your information.
What type of information can I access using the system?
Currently briefCase contains information from legacy systems in the following offices:
- Financial Aid
- Student Employment
- External Loans
- Accounts Receivable
Some of the specific reports available from the system include:
- Financial Aid Application Status
- Financial Aid Award
- Work Study Earnings
- Loan Summary
- Tuition Account Summary
- IRS Form 1098-T
Why does the background color in briefCase sometimes change?
The background color of the public-access pages in briefCase and its associated web sites is a light blue that matches the CWRU Home Page. When you access briefCase using your User ID and Password, the background color darkens to a purple color to indicate that you are now authenticated to a secure web application. The background may remain purple even if you are directed to one of the associated web sites, so that you don't have to re-enter your User ID and Password when you return to briefCase.
If you click "Log Out" or your briefCase session expires due to inactivity, the background color will return to light blue.
Can I complete my Financial Aid Application using briefCase?
Yes, as of the summer of 2007 Financial Aid Applications can be completed online from within briefCase. Only students who have been offered admission to Case Western Reserve University and who have accepted are able to complete a financial aid application.
