Scholarships, together with grants, are often referred to as "gift assistance"; they do not have to be repaid. Scholarships may be awarded for a single year or for multiple years. In the latter case, there may be renewal criteria associated with keeping the scholarship for subsequent years.
Beyond the scholarships listed below, the Office of University Financial Aid maintains an external-scholarship board on the fourth floor of Yost Hall with information about scholarship programs offered by various external organizations.
Scholarship Policy
Case Western Reserve University is dedicated to excellence in its educational programs and in its research. We believe that quality programs, an excellent faculty, and an academically talented student body are the greatest strengths of an institution of higher education. Our scholarship program is designed to provide financial support for students of superior ability who wish to attend Case.
Scholarship support is restricted to tuition only unless otherwise noted. An individual student may not receive scholarship assistance from university programs or scholarship funds in excess of full tuition.
A student may apply for both scholarship and need-based financial assistance from the University. If the student receives a scholarship from any source that equals or exceeds the student’s demonstrated financial need, no additional financial assistance will be granted.
If a student receives scholarship support in an amount that is less than his or her demonstrated financial need, additional financial assistance to meet the difference between the amount of demonstrated financial need and the value of the scholarship will be awarded.
